A class action settlement states that if a polybutylene (PB) pipe system has leaked, is leaking now or leaks in the future, homeowners may qualify for a free plumbing replacement. The claim must be made by May 1, 2009.

The dates for PB plumbing installations covered by the settlement are from January 1, 1978 to July 31, 1995, covering about 6 million residential installs.
